The forward cross-beam and the pontoon are well clear of the paddle. It does not seem to pull in any direction. Anyway, I spent half an hour on the water and I am quite happy with the outrigger. I certainly have not developed a "stroke" so this was quite new for me. The last time I paddled a canoe was about 10 years ago. I have been waiting a week or so for some nice weather. So easy, cut out the rear cross-beam to make room. The designed section modulus is 58e-6 m^3. The working stress for Tasmanian Oak is 35 MPa so the required section modulus for the uncut beam is 18e-6 m^3. The required moment capacity is therefore 0.619 kNm.
